Our History

The Institute of Sociology and Social Policy of Corvinus University of Budapest (CUB) looks back on several decades of studying deviant behaviours. It was Rudolf Andorka, head of the Institute in the 1980s and a prominent figure in research on deviant behaviours in Hungary who initiated conducting research in the field within the University. Since the 1980s the Institute has become one of the major centres for epidemiological studies on alcohol and drug use in Hungary. Most of the studies were

conducted in the framework of international comparative studies such as the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD), the Alcohol Measures for Public Health Research Alliance (AMPHORA), the Gender, Alcohol and Culture - An International Study (GENACIS), swiftly making the Institute an integral part of the international research scene. The epidemiology of alcohol and drug use plays a pivotal role in the education provided by the Institute.
